Why Can Children Answer So Fast, Yet Not Truly Understand Math?

Math education should train children to think, understand, and build meaning from concrete experience, not simply produce fast answers like human calculators. We believe a child who truly grasps why 24 + 18 = 42 will always outlast a child who only memorizes it.
